Easy Ride with Gentle Grades

Aare & Vegetable Land

From Lyss, follow quiet, lightly trafficked paths toward Aarberg. At Aarberg, head past the swimming pool and power station, then continue along the Aare River (the “Beaver Trail”) to Radelfingen. Cross the newly built bridge there to Niederried, then press on toward Golaten. As you approach Golaten, you’ll pass expansive vegetable fields and a large tree nursery.

From Golaten, cycle onward through Kerzers to the train station. There, pick up a brochure on the “Vegetable Trail” at the ticket office. The trail is well signposted in green and red routes.

Our suggested course follows the red (longer) route, which takes you past countless vegetable plots, where the fresh, earthy scent lingers in the air. Informational panels along the way explain local growing methods.

Leaving Kerzers, continue through Galmiz, Sugiez, Ins, Müntschemier, Treiten, and Finsterhennen. At Finsterhennen, your Vegetable Trail detour ends—turn toward Kallnach.

Before Kallnach, cross the main road and rejoin the Aare via the Hagneck Canal. Follow the Aare downstream back to Aarberg, then ride through the ancient riverside forest along the old Aare riverbed until you return to Lyss.

This is a very pleasant route—and you can easily customize it. For example, in Kerzers you can switch to the green route toward Ins, then rejoin the red route before Müntschemier to shorten the ride by roughly 10 km.

This tour is also very comfortable on an e-bike.

Aare–Frieswil–Seedorf–Lyss Tour

This route starts off relatively flat, leading from Lyss via Aarberg and then following the Aare River. After the weir at Radelfingen, the terrain climbs steadily up to Frieswil. From Frieswil, the path eases as you head toward Baggwil. Beyond Baggwil, you descend back down to Seedorf, pass through Grissenberg and Wiler, and return to Lyss.

A beautiful tour that stays largely off the main roads.

Around Lake Biel

Enjoy a leisurely circuit around Lake Biel. From Lyss, head toward Biel—choose whether to follow the main road via Studen and Brügg or take the Jäissberg pass. Once in Biel, ride lakeside toward Twann, Ligerz, and La Neuveville. Here you can either continue right along the shore or detour through the vineyards for stunning views across the lake to the Alps.

After La Neuveville, continue to Erlach. If you still have energy, add a side trip over the Heidenweg to the famed St. Peter’s Island. Then proceed via Lüscherz and climb the Feiberg to Hagneck. From Hagneck, you can follow the lakeside footpath past the hydroelectric plant or stick to the road through Mörigen, Sutz, and Ipsach before returning to Biel and back to Lyss.

Alternatively, follow the main road to Täuffelen and then return via Walperswil, Bühl, and Kappelen.

A truly scenic loop with very few climbs.
